Big Thumbs Down to ErieBlogs.com

Posted by: Jennifer K. Robinson on Friday, June 13th, 2008

It’s days like today when I wish www.eriemediablog.com was up and running.  Erieblogs.com doesn’t let a lot of comments through and I don’t want this message to be censored.

I am appalled by the commentary posted today by **NAME REMOVED ** in the daily news and events section.  I feel like I should be keeping score each time I am offended.  (PS– I’m hard to offend!) **The Author** said that frequent Erie blog commenter, **name removed by request**, could find the services of a behavioral health organization useful.  For a site that wants to promote Erie, blogging, and the spirit of community, the external message to visitors is detrimental to the brand of Erie Blogs.

Update at 6:29 EST, June 21, 2008:

One of the persons who was previously named in this thread has asked that his or her name be removed so that negative information about them would not show up in search engines.

Also information info since this was posted:

- The blog author who said something about another is no longer affiliated with EB for unknown reasons.

- I have decided to alter the content of this post and have removed the names for privacy reasons.

- I need to add a policy to this blog to avoid future conflicts.

- I will manipulate the names that have been posted but leave a disclaimer that the names have been altered for privacy.

I agree with you! He saying someone else could use mental services is the pot calling the kettle black.

A lot of people commented at Erie Media Go Round about Dennis’s editorial comments. Since Jack’s passing, I don’t know what the status of that blog is.

I was surprised he put one of my critical comments through not long ago (where he called one woman a “crazy bitch” and another “babykiller”). I don’t know if he realizes the rep he has around Erie. I think all you can do is comment elsewhere (I saw this via your Facebook profile) and hope that the message will get out & get through somewhere.

You’re definitely not alone in being offended by his editorial comments. I still say he should be given an editorial page and then keep “Erie Blogs” less opinionated. But hey, that’s just my opinion ;)

I agree, that wasn’t fair to Danny and especially to Safe Harbor, who provides a valuable resource in the community. While I didn’t post it, I apologize.

He is such a weasel. I have left several comments in the past. He never allows any to go thru. I just figured he never looked and was ‘jacking off’ in a corner.

It’s interesting how constructive criticism brings out the child in some people.

And Scott, your comment is not very constructive :P

Hey, comments go straight through now. I just found out.

Jennifer K. Robinson Says:

That’s cool. Perhaps feedback such as this post helped drive change.

I am seeing this for the first time at 10:30 pm on Wednesday, June 18, 2008.

I am grateful for your kind words and action here, Jennifer. I would be most interested in hearing from ANYONE who has a hard copy in their archives of the actual comment.

My reading has been sporadic since my mother died last May 21st, 2008. She was in Oregon and the funeral was delayed until May 29th in Erie, PA. After that, Jack Tirak’s funeral occupied my time.

My usual attention to detail was missing on the June 13th, 2009 post by Mr. Weed.

On June 12th, 2008, fellow LLC owner at Erie Blogs, Richard, did the precise same thing as Dennis apparently did on the 13th of June as noted by Jennifer.

Richard’s comments are on Erica’s Emarketing Blog.
I gave my consensus on GoErie. It included precisely 8 accurate words on Erie Blogs. Subsequent development in the LLC partnership declining by at least one “C” to a smaller outfit of “LL” show that the owners must agree with my 8 word assessment.

But Dennis is not alone. Richard spent hours harassing and creating Search Word derisions galore, as if he was Erie BlogWatch instead of Erie Blog. Hmmmm.

Richard was summarily dismissed in his most blatant comments and they were removed, some in partial and some in total.
The blizzard of hate from Richard is here:
http://ericadewolf.wordpress.com/2008/06/11/goeriehelp/#comments

It, too, has been sanitized by the blog owner.

Now I look at the 3rd partner at Erie Blogs above here, saying:
“Mike Says:
June 13th, 2008 at 7:20 pm

I agree, that wasn’t fair to Danny and especially to Safe Harbor, who provides a valuable resource in the community. While I didn’t post it, I apologize.”

If ever an apology was hedged, this one sure qualifies. Mike may not have done the writing, but Mike clearly approves Dennis’ writing all along. Richard has too. All 3 of these guys are partners registered with the State of PA as an LLC as of last October. I am sure that will have to be revised soon.

In addition to strong endorsement of Dennis, Richard and Mike allow the derogatory post on my name to appear on the Erie Blog homepage, as Jennifer notes here.

Had Jennifer NOT posted here, she would indeed be deleted at Erie Blogs as is customary and well known by the community. Their archives confirm zero comment regularly, and Mike once wrote me asking for ways to increase commentary at Erie Blogs.

Ask yourself this, about Mike’s apology and public behavior in this incident and all along……….

How would you like that comment made by Dennis appearing with YOUR name (anyone,.. John or Jane Public, not Mike) and having an apology hedged with “I did not write it” coupled with the whole apology appearing at Jennifer’s place only?

Anyone with decency or genuine apology would take that stated apology and place it on the Homepage of Erie Blog. That page is apparently reserved for slander, not apology.

And Mike, if you slander on the Homepage, whether you wrote the piece or not, the Home Page is where the apology belonged.

All three owners embarrass Erie, PA with umbrage, innuendo, attack, and editorial misconduct regularly.

I am at a loss to understand why any advertiser would associate THEIR product name, with an outfit that antagonizes individuals, the community, and beyond.

YOU are a class act Jennifer.
Your efforts to drag me out of the slime pit will be remembered. Thank you.

Danny Lucas Says:
June 19th, 2008 at 3:30 am

Given the way things are done at Erie Blogs, I wish to confirm here that the partnership consists of all 3: Dennis, Mike and Richard.

That is noted here:
http://www.erieblogs.com/archives/2007/10/erieblogs_miles.php

I urge you to read comment 4 posted on this page as well.

With respect to the State of Pennsylvania and this LLC partnership, that is noted here:
http://www.corporations.state.pa.us/corp/soskb/Corp.asp?2606649

I have my own hard copy of both items secured properly.

THIS audience is advised to do the same in the event it is needed in the future by you.

“Richard, did the precise same thing as Dennis apparently did.”

Once again Danny, you’re not telling the truth. The comments I left on Erica’s blog addressed the many, many falsehoods made by you–not to mention your personal attacks on others including myself.

Granted the words Dennis left were inappropriate, you’re certainly no angel in any of this Danny.
Your an instigator of the worse kind.

Erica DeWolf Says:

When I usually visit ErieBlogs, I go straight for the feed to the right and pay little attention to the content on the left- I may just start paying more attention, as a comment like that was inappropriate and a straight out attack. I fear **lannyducas** gets a lot of criticism simply because he is honest in his opinions and does not censor himself or walk on eggshells. The attacks on him, specifically, and anybody, should definitely stop.

Thanks, Jennifer, for making me aware.

Danny Lucas Says:

So we have had a visit by Mike; and a visit by Richard AFTER the Dennis post that Jennifer brought to light above.

Mike gives a dubious apology at best; Richard renews attack at its worst.

These three cowbows have railroaded this community at will; and, continue to do so as Richard has done above.

Mike has asked me in an email how to increase comments at Erie Blogs. My response: “Get rid of Dennis”. There is confusion among these three as to whether Dennis is in the LLC or out.

Mike emails online that Dennis is no longer in Erie Blogs. Dennis responds with this:
http://erieblogs.blogspot.com/2008/06/sdasdada.html

The time and date stamp are clearly AFTER Dennis made a worse comment on Eden’s spouse than he made on me as noted above. THAT comment was removed too.

The reality is this.
In the past week, Erie Blogs is scrambling to recover from the negative impact in postings by Dennis, Richard, and Mike (he too censors comments at his private blog, btw).

Comments are reportedly now open ala Jack Tirak at EMGR (now a closed blog). Tirak never required an email address and only in the last months veered toward an ID other than “anonymous”, to seperate commentor and replies.
Comments are reportedly open at the base of Homepage daily too, tho Dennis was deleted there last Monday (Altoona attack on Eden).

Erie Blogs wants your name and email before any comment, but claims they are akin to Tirak in his Shouts venue each week. It just is not so.

Erie Blogs censored comments unless Dennis felt like putting them through….generally with brutal adjectives and adverbs added.

Richard and Mike approve of ALL comments Dennis made as well as all attack.

Proof?
If these guys can evict a partner, and apparently now tear down evil comments like Dennis made on me, and on Eden’s spouse, then they could have pulled Dennis’ unwise attacks on everyone at any time in the past.

They intentionally chose NOT to censor Dennis, and they approved his unleashing upon any and every one he chose. The archives at Erie Blogs are a bastion of hate, attack, innuendo, sarcasm of the lowest order, malignment of individuals, and preordained conviction of folks accused in the paper. If there is an apology to anyone on any homepage in archives at Erie Blogs, I have not seen it.

Keep in mind that the Home Page was fine for a post that Jenson found objectionable.
(Ironically, I note Mike is plugging Jenson on the homepage today 6/19/08 and directing traffic to her blog after the fiasco itemized here. I can find no link to erie Blogs at Jennifer’s current site. I wonder why Mike highlights Jennifer now?).

But BOTH Richard and Mike have refused to apologize on their Homepage, where the deed was done to both parties maligned in this post, and to Eden for the derogatory comment made toward her that was worth a tear down too.
Both Erie Blog owners feel this is good behavior.

Finally, I note that Mike made a dubious apology here at Jennifer’s blog. (HEY, look at her blog post title; I wonder why there is concern of dissatisfaction with Erie Blogs).

Mike says “I did not write the ‘Dennis’ attack, but apologizes here, not on the Homepage as he should. He denies he is responsible; then deletes what he is not responsible for. Hmmmm.

It is indicative of character that all viewers take note; at NO TIME, does Richard apologize or see the necessity of doing so. Neither on the home page or a lesser profile here. Richard still does not have a clue about public behavior that is acceptable.

Why any advertiser would get involved with any of these three individuals, is a question they (advertisers)must weigh before associating their product with this level of social irresponsibility on the Internet.

Why the public would choose to go there, given the history of what is acceptable, remains open for debate too. Erie Blogs needs BlogWatch. It is best to find new venues of access.

A few thoughts from me:

- I’m an advocate for Erieblogs.com. I appreciate their sense of community and promotions for the Erie region. I was turned off by the negative comments but I think it’s something we should move past now– as of this week.

- I’ve communicated with Mike and there is a new positive direction for ErieBlogs.

- I don’t know the details of why Dennis is no longer with Erieblogs. I’m super curious. But will we ever know what happened in the blog circuit? My first instinct tells me the answer is no. If I were them, from a business perspective, I might try to let the blog gossip fizzle (eventually, it will). However, I also see the benefit of telling us what’s going on. It would be a very honest move that could help the site regain it’s credibility.

- People are strange.

- I try to be fair and honest with my opinions and thoughts and blog posts.

- I think **LannyDucas** is upset and he should probably relax a little bit.

- The time stamps on my blog are not accurate.

- I enjoyed Erie Blog Watch. I miss Erie Media Blog.

- My site feed hasn’t been on the blog browser in a while. I did not proactively ask them to put it back because I was fine with my name not showing up near negative commentary. Would I want to be added now? Sure. Erieblogs did pass me a lot of traffic.

- My site is on the main blogroll under “Jenson.”

- It was nice of Mike to link me today. Perhaps it’s because I talked about volunteer opps. Maybe it’s because of something else. It may be unfair to question every word. Just go with it ;0)

- The advertising adage, “There’s no such thing as bad publicity” could ring true. How many hits did EB get from people visiting the site to read the comments?

- Dennis had a great rhythm for publishing info on Erieblogs. Even though I disagree with his tone, I will recognize that it’s super hard to post in depth content every day like clock work.

- Commenting: Comments are going through on Erie blogs. I generally like to publish all my comments but ones that are degrating to me, other bloggers, or other people may not pass the filter (This is directed to the immature person who tried to push a comment through saying some rude things about me). Spam also catches a lot of comments. I love my spam filter.

- I despise ignorance.

- Internet stalking and cyber bullying are bad.

- I’m passing the peace pipe around. Relax, take a deep breath, exhale… Don’t let the blogosphere make or break your day or life. It’s a blog.

It’s good to see that constructive talk on blogs can sometimes bring about change. If we could apply this to our local government, we could make some strides.

I also miss reading EMGR. There was some good discussion going on there. I hope to see that site continued, but it will be tough to replace Jack.

Eden Says:

Oh and the person who asked his name be removed? Already has a HORRIBLE professional reputation in Erie. I found that out the hard way and confirmed it by speaking with others in his field. And the rep is due to the offensive asides he made in those posts. So he really shouldn’t worry about your blog posts. He should worry about what he did to his own rep.

And that’s the first public mention I’ve made of that. And I stand behind it.

Pass me that peace pipe…

Oh you deleted the name :(

My comments are indeed constructive!! With all the houses for sale around town these days there is a bunch of corners to hide in and do your ‘personal’ business.

I am not one for deleting or moderating comments. Only time I do/did is when there was SPAM posting for the latest Viagra wonder drug, etc.

Hey did I ever say ‘purple’ is a very nice color? Have a good rest of the weekend.

This is all quite interesting. I, like Eden, left a comment in response to the “crazy bitch” and “babykiller” comments in EB several weeks ago, then received a rather out of the blue negative comment in my own blog from Dennis, which was rather irrelevant to any of my posting and I took it as a personal attack. I have left the comment up, and will keep it up as a reminder that I do publish all comments, even if they are bullying in tone. I only remove spam comments.

I have apparently missed out on the above events.
