Time flies…

Posted by: Jennifer K. Robinson on Thursday, July 17th, 2008

The past six months have been very busy for me.  I moved back to Pennsylvania from Missouri.  The intensity of wedding planning has increased immensely.  We’ve been meeting with and booking vendors to ensure our New Year’s Eve wedding is the party of the year (for both 2008 and 2009!). On the professional front, my job assignment has been keeping me super busy.  I have been working with advertising and animation agencies to produce some really fun deliverables (and much more).

It’s only going to get more intense… I would like to announce that I’m starting my own print, stationery and promotional business.  I look forward to documenting my start up efforts and growing the business.  I’ll do this all as I finalize the wedding planning, work a full time job, meet my blogging commitments and settle into my new home (some may call me crazy– but I call it inspired!).

In the next six months, I’ll get married, graduate from my leadership program, and start the next journey of my life.  This is exciting stuff!

You wrote “I would like to announce that I’m starting my own print, stationary and promotional business.”

Congratulations & best wishes on your venture !

However, I must ask what exactly is a ’stationary’ business ? Do you mean ’stationery’ ? (Not sure that’s correct either)

You’re right, EBW. The correct word is “stationery.” Good first lesson :)

Scroll back one more post and Scott has this dilemma:
“My guess Erie will start loosing flights not necessarily loosing Northwest, USairways, etc.”

Jennifer is luckier; she just goes on “loosing” luggage in reply.

Maybe EBW provides a good, second lesson.
The first lesson got “loosed”

That sounds great Jenson ! It’s always great to see an entrepeneur in action.

I’m wondering if you’ve any thoughts on the continued use & consumption of paper stationery items as the web, email, IM, etc. continue to flourish and paper/postage costs rise.

It seems like there won’t be a proper substitute any time soon for formal things like wedding invitations, thank-you notes, place cards, and so on. Fine by me. Those are a good fit for classy occasions.

Mrs. EBW enjoys writing social notes to people on her monogrammed notecards and assures me that the practice is nowhere near extinction. When I Google’d for a source of these things to buy her some for a Christmas gift, there seemed to be no shortage of vendors eager to supply almost any variety imaginable.

And yet the art of handwritten correspondence or even printed missives somehow still seems endangered.

Personally I’d be lost without my email account. I don’t remember the last time I wrote out a letter by hand or even received one. Maybe a postcard or two on vacation though.

I feal honored that people are checking my posts to be sure I spel everything correctly. And then for people to remember spelling errors from a few days ago…brilliant, you all should be teachers or something.

Was Jen asking for opinions on her business? So much negativity it just makes me want to tie a brick or two to my ankle and jump off dobbins landing. Although come to think of it that may not work I may need to go deeper out to lake my feet may touch the bottom and I would have to come back here and read all your responses.

Great Scott!!!
Jen gets called on a spelling error and says
“Good first lesson” (for her business).

Another spelling error leads to death by brick and rope at Dobbins???

If all it took was a misspelled word to entitle anyone to that extreme, anyone who ever wrote anything, anywhere, would now be able to jump in the lake.

Frankly, long before EBW mentioned “stationery”, I had spotted loose (instead of lose) in Jen’s response alone. It was a quick read and I never noticed it in the Scott comment.

Why?
One is a professional business person and it stood out.

But Jen’s attitude at accepting a “head’s up” from EBW made the same “Heads up” in another post meaningful. So, I took the time.
(I was astonished that EBW did not kill two birds with one stone and point out both).

Generally, people just say “thanks” when someone says “your slip is showing” or “your fly is down”.

Skip Dobbins. Swim at Beach 6. They have lifeguards and enough enjoyable scenery that you may not even go swimming.

Your question “Was Jen asking for opinions for her business?” is valid. Since she posted the information in a blog, my guess is that a response to that news would hardly be unusual.

One last note, Scott.
Myriad numbers of bloggers have had a personal email from me with a “heads up” on an error in their post. They change it lickety split before most in the public have glimpsed it.
Generally, they write a note back too.

But as you have indicated, not everyone wants to have an email or note on an error.
Likewise, I have made a comment and immediately detected my own misspell. I write the blogger and ask for a quick correction of my error.
The ethical ones are only too happy to comply.

Danny…Your responses always make my head spin. Since I always have to bake and read them.

I’m sorry if I offended anyone or said the wrong thing.

Jenson mentioned her new business venture, and I thought I might get a little bit of discussion going on-topic. Generally bloggers encourage & welcome hearing from their readers.

No one was trying to be negative. Quite the contrary.

I’ve purposely refrained from commenting on this post for a few days.

I’m a positive person and I appreciate positive comments. Life is not all milk and honey– I suppose blogging can’t be milk and honey all the time either. With good comments can also come bad.

So onto the ball busting. Or blog busting. Whichever you prefer…. When I sit down to blog, I’m often very limited on time so I push things out. Sometimes, it’s better to write something than nothing. However, writing nothing means less grief from this audience.

Then again, why be silenced? I wish that people could focus on content rather than perfection. While striving for perfection is a nice goal, it’s unrealistic with all my obligations.

Perhaps I should outsource my editing to those who have time to care about each and every detail. Perhaps I should say nothing.

Jenson!

Sam here. I joined the HighCallingBlogs network a while back and was checking out new folks there today. I found PureMotif and saw your name and face there, so I had to see if it was actually you.

Congratulations on the number of good things you have coming up, especially the wedding.

Also, I didn’t realize you were in the marketing/advertising world. I am, too. Well, sort of. Maybe I should say I care about folks in this industry through a variety of mediums, including a blog called New Breed of Advertisers.

Say hi when you get a chance.

Sam
